I have been a member of TWWBLSC for over 5 years and prior to that a member of Raglan Surf Lifesaving Club. I have actively patrolled and competed throughout this time and now a member of the call out squad at Waihi Beach. I have previously held positions within the Club of Director of Member-ship, Director of Lifeguarding, Patrol Officer, Club Captain, Nippers Coach and Operations Manager.

From outside the lifesaving scene I have worked for NZ Police for 15 years and am presently a Senior Sergeant based in Hamilton. I will look to bring some of the leadership skills developed in this organisation across to this new President’s role.

I am looking forward to being part of the club’s management team for the 2014/2015 season and would like to see the club continue in its self-sustainable growth and see the pride and club spirit grow over the year ahead.

In December 2013 I took over the role as acting chair, as Janine O’Connor headed overseas, it is my privilege to be able to continue this work this season. Our family has been a member of the club for 6 years around Junior Surf with our eldest son qualifying as a life guard last year. The club has provided our children with so much that it is time for us to give back. I have a management degree and experience in sales and marketing and I hope that these skills will assist to promote the club to the wider community and build a strong membership base. Collaboration between all of the stakeholders will result in a strong functioning organisation that achieves great things. Looking forward to the journey.

I have been a member of the club here at Waihi Beach since the 1999/2000 season, when our eldest son James, now a senior life-guard, started as a Nipper. Since that time, I have coached, assisted, helped with competitions and events, supported the club and during the 2012/13 season worked with Junior Surf as the Coaching and Competitions Coordinator.

My background is varied, including many years in not-for-profit development, governance and management, where my passion for voluntary work developed. I have worked in both Sales and Marketing Management roles, PR and Communications, as an Event Manager for major international sporting events, been a primary school teacher, netball and athletics coach, sports coordinator and prior to that, just for something completely different – a ballet dancer, teacher and examiner. Currently, I work as a consultant with a company supporting small-to-medium sized businesses.

Volunteers and volunteering are vitally important to me and they obviously play an enormous role in the ongoing success and development of our club and its people. I am looking forward to a great season, working in the areas of coaching and competition throughout all levels of the club, coordinating a team of wonderful volunteers to ensure our success!
